Several years ago I pulled back the curtain on my weight loss journey. The one question I am always asked and use to rarely answer is how much I weighed at my heaviest, well it was 565. What do you weigh now? I range from 228-245 depending on the week (I only weigh once a week, I don’t let the scale define me). Did you have surgery, yes, I did I had Duodenal Switch done 2/17/2021. I do not talk about the surgery as much unless its’ in a one-on-one setting or you knew because you are in that inner circle, the reason is because it is truly a tool I used, it was not the end all be all saving grace solution. Thousands of people have had procedures but in my opinion without the grind and dedication I do not think I would have achieved my goals.
I do not highlight the surgery also because it tends to take away from the work I put in before I ever came to that point. I was able to drop 105lbs before I ever even had a WSL conversation. Once the decision was made to go down that road that process, I followed I dropped another 60lbs. Every step of the process I kept getting told I was the perfect candidate as for mindset and work ethic etc…
Weight loss surgery is not for the faint of heart not because it doesn’t work but, in my opinion, you have to be mentally ready and strong to make it work and last. Trust I still have fat-kid thoughts and actions, but I manage them and control them. I still love me some Oreos, I just do not smash the family pack by myself. I do not push myself beyond satisfaction when I eat. I broke the mindset of I have to clean my plate if I need to trash something so be it, those starving kids in Africa will just have to be mad at me.
I have now reached a point where I want to help others, I pray I can inspire and encourage just one person that it is possible surgery or not to make small changes. End the end the surgery did not define my success it was God’s grace and an awesome wife by my side that supports me 110%!!!!
